The July 4th Holiday weekend got off to a hot start with a boat fire in Fernandina Beach, just off the shore of Amelia Island, Florida. At just about noon on Friday, July 3, emergency crews responded to a report of a 40 to 50 foot boat that was fully engulfed in flames. It was reported that possibly three people were jumping off of the boat into the water near the Shave Bridge at the Intra coastal waterway and the boat had more than 300 gallons of fuel onboard.
We sent one of our teams out to see what we could learn about this event. We will report more to you as it becomes available including any State information regarding the environmental concerns if a potential fuel spill results from this fire.
