I have made it a part of my weekend routine to head downtown on Saturday morning to the Fernandina Farmers Market. I love to get my produce fresh from the local farmers and it is a great place to watch people. Some of the vendors are there each week while others come on a schedule that you can check either online at their Web site at, or on the board at the top of the Market.
Fresh breads, vegetables, and fruit are always available. Specialty items such as homemade pasta, crab cakes, and organic wheatgrass are offered as well. The Market is fun an entertaining with live music scheduled throughout the morning.
One of my favorite things to find at the Market is the beautiful variety of plants and flowers that are there. I have had the opportunity to purchase most of my flowering plants for my arbor garden at the Market.

I love to pick up fresh bread for dinner and get the items for a great salad too. Sometimes I sneak in a chocolate croissant for a treat. Early on Saturday morning, wander down to the Fernandina Farmers Market and check out the many vendors, food items, and plants. The Market is open from 9am-1pm each Saturday. It is located at the corner of Centre and 7th Streets. This is a pet friendly open air market where people walk their dogs while they shop.
Also, this Saturday on July 4th, the 2009 American Legion Auxiliary Cookbook, Unit 54 will be available at the Market. This is a one of a kind cookbook that has not been done before and will probably not be done again for many years. The recipes come from all members of the American Legion, sons of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and the American Legion Riders. The book has been dedicated to the “Old Log Cabin” and the City of Fernandina Beach for their generosity and kindness in allowing the Legion the opportunity to make the Cabin their home for so many years. Funds from the cookbook sales will become part of the Legion’s general fund which is used to send care packages to our troops, supplies to the VA hospital, Relay for Life cancer, adopt a family at Christmas time, Micah’s Place and many other organizations within the community.

My husband and daughter like to go to yard sales on Saturday mornings and they often swing through the Farmer's Market and pick up Crab Cakes and fresh homemade bread! Yummy!
Who would have thought a Farmer's Market could provide such valuable parental/teenager bonding time; and they can bring the dog as well???
Heade there this morning with my daughter and a friend of hers in tow. I enjoy the whole atmosphere there.
