Nassau County, Florida, is announcing the Grand Opening of Goffinsville Park off of Old Nassauville Road, CR 107, in Nassauville. What was once a semi-maintained boat ramp, is now indeed a park the County should be very proud of and it is loaded with state of the art amenities. We were given a personalized tour by the Building Maintenance Construction Supervisor for the county, William Stonebreaker.
There are thousands of feet of nature trails that wind through the park and around the playground equipment that is approved for children up to 15 years of age and the entire park is accessible. Installed over Vitriturf, a “fall zone material”, the playground’s floor is made up of recycled tires and provides a cushioned floor creating an added safety feature for the children who are playing on this new equipment.
There are six covered picnic pavilions and the county plans to add a grill station to each one, but they won’t be installed before the Grand Opening on Wednesday morning, July 22. The celebration will be attended by the County Commissioners, with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony scheduled for 10:00 AM, complete with donated door prizes such as dinner gift certificates and rods and reels.
The rest rooms have an energy efficient instant hot water feature, and are located on the waterfront side of the concession stand that will eventually be leased to a company to sell bait, refreshments and ice to boaters, fisherman, kayakers and picnic goers.
The ample parking area has single spots for cars, trucks and minivans and larger spaces have been designed for parking vehicles pulling boat trailers. The boat ramp is 118 feet long and provides 6 foot of water at low tide. Sorry Kayakers, but the kayak launch is a floating dock located next to the boat ramp. A separate lighted 152 foot fishing pier is located to the north of the boat ramp and has some built in seating.
After our “sneak peak” of the park, Mr. Stonebreaker, who had referred to the park as a “Jewel of the community”, called it correctly! This project was sponsored in part by Florida Communities Trust using Florida Forever Funds. We were thoroughly impressed at the thought, planning and quality of workmanship that went into this waterfront park. Our entire community will enjoy Goffinsville Park for many years to come!
