Obviously this may go too far.
Every bride wants her wedding day to be a memorable event that is not forgotten. Everything has to be perfect: the dress, the venue, food, the entertainment, the budget and more. In planning this special day, most couples feel that money determines the overall success of the event. This could not be further from the facts. The truth is that the most spectacular events are those that used creativity in lieu of big dollars to create a wow factor. Consider these tips when planning your wedding.
Venue Venues come in many variations from the traditional to the unique. Instead of paying thousands of dollars for a place to eat, drink and dance after your wedding, consider having a tent erected in your backyard. Tents have options available such as full enclosures, A/C, indirect lighting and can be tailored to fit your needs and budget.
Decorations It’s better to settle for one eye catching centerpiece than for a lot of costly small decorations. An ice sculpture would be magnificent, but a very nice Champaign Fountain will do very well.
Food/ catering Food is a huge expense at any event regardless of the number of people attending. Food is the one component that you don’t want to skimp on, but on the other hand you don’t want to blow your whole budget on it either. Here are a few things to consider first, rule out your family and friends doing the cooking; they deserve to have a good time at your event and should not be working. Find a couple of stay at home moms that are looking for something do to make a few extra dollars. Allow them to prepare your food and along with a few of their girlfriends who could serve your guests.
Memories Photography and Video can be an expensive proposition in your budget. Combine both into a fixed price service.
Invitations Invitations can cost $4.00-$14.00 each in some cases more and with events that invite 200+ guest can get very costly. Designing your own invitations is the ticket, when you’re in the saving mood. Browse the Internet for ideas and don’t be afraid to take on this responsibility. Items such as lace and ribbon can be purchased at any craft store and with a little practice you’re sure to become an “expert” in this field.
Entertainment Traditionally a DJ would provide both the music as well as the PA system for announcements and toasts. While this is still a great option, there are other alternatives that create the same effect but at a lesser cost. PA systems are available for rent and connect with IPod hookups. With an IPod loaded with your favorite songs and a high school student manning it, you can have just as much fun, if not more. Also live music options are often less expensive and can be customized to your expectations (60’s, 70’s, 80’s, romantic etc.)
Get away car Most people opt for limos or even a horse and carriage to drive off with after their reception is over. These are very classy modes of transportation but with a hefty price tag. Consider other creative means of escaping your event that will make a huge impression on your guests and make your wedding much more special. Riding off into the sunset on a borrowed Harley Davidson or how about a rag top jeep or contact someone with Amelia Cruizers? There are many choices that will be lots of fun and cost nothing or little, but you have to get creative.
Having a great event is always fun and it can be done on a budget if your willing to get creative and do a little creative thinking. If you’re planning a wedding, or any event for that matter, take some time to consider your options before making a detailed plan. A little thought and planning will ensure that your guests, and even more importantly you, will be talking about your event for years to come.
