The Nassau County chapter of the
Sierra Club is planning a bicycle outing that will be full of the island’s natural beauty and some history, too. This trip is free and open to the public and includes a historical and cultural presentation by the author of “An American Beach for African Americans”, Marsha Phelts. RSVP by November 2, 2009, to (904) 432-8389 if you want to participate in this roundtrip, leisurely paced ride that will be held on Saturday, November 7.
At 9:30 AM the trip departs from the Atlantic Avenue Recreation Center and is about 13 miles round trip. The route includes the Egan’s Greenway, the Amelia Island Parkway, Fletcher, Jasmine, 1st Street and in American Beach. After the lecture, you can have lunch on the beach or stop in at Gourmet-Gourmet for a real treat.
