Mayor Steger and Philippe Boets
Last night’s Fernandina Beach Commissioner Meeting started out with the recognition and awarding of four (4) Proclamations. One of which was to Philippe Boets, president and owner of Pétanque America, for bringing a fabulous family game sport to the shores of Amelia Island.
November 14 and 15 are now declared Pétanque America Days in Fernandina Beach, an honor that supports Philippe’s relentless effort to bring an International Pétanque tournament to the island. Almost 200 players from all over the US, Europe and Canada are flying in next week to compete for the title and a cash purse of $5,000 on November 14 and 15.
Other proclamations went to the National American Indian Heritage Organization, the National Family Literacy Month and the Lofton family who got November 15 declared as Retired Educators Day in Fernandina Beach.
