The Misery of Travel
We all know that traveling, and by air in particular, has become a nuisance; even travel in general has now become a major inconvenience. It is estimated that this Thanksgiving Holiday 70 million people are traveling. That’s a lot of people. And a lot of delays and traffic jams and yes, accidents. I’d rather be here on my favorite Amelia Island and don’t even venture across the bridge.
I did that yesterday and in all this panic and chaos there was a nice little oasis of peace in a place you would least expect it:  the central hall of Jacksonville International Airport, where a nice gentleman was nestled between two keyboards in a corner and played a variety of great tunes which gently settled in all four corners of the hall. His name is Roger Glover and his act is The Fabulous Moods of Roger Glover. Very enjoyable.
Never in the last decade had I such a nice and relaxed lunch while waiting for a departure and the slow moving lines through security. You won’t find that in the nerve wrecking cattle moving airports such as Atanta’s Hartsfield, O’Hare or Miami International.
From the first time I flew into Jax I liked the airport. It even had a free parking area then, next to the arrivals where you could park your car for a short period of time while welcoming and helping your anticipated arrival through the luggage collection process. Cozy, friendly and easy to navigate.  Even though I miss the free little parking area, especially when I nervously keep circling the airport until my party steps out of the arrival doors and I feel double guilty because of the extra air pollution, I still like Jax Airport, even though they should drop the misleading predicate of International.
It is what it is; a cozy regional airport where someone actually cared enough about the traveling population to have a musician play soothing and friendly tunes in an otherwise very dreary experience. Well done.
