Homemade Aftershave with RUM

Remember the old days when you would go into a barber shop and the first thing you noticed was that distinctive smell of bay rum.  The smell was like no other.  Bay Rum is an aftershave lotion that is made from soaking bay leaves in rum, you can add a your own variation if you like.

Christmas is right around the corner and you can really impress the male friends you may have on your Christmas list.¬† I have made my own bay rum and I’m¬†always pleased with the outcome.¬† My own recipe for bay rum is a simple one but very effective.¬† Fill a quart mason jar with as many dried bay leaves as you can put in the jar.¬† Now fill the jar with rum, your favorite brand will do.¬† You can add a sprig of rosemary if you like, it adds a little kick to the smell.¬† Put the lid on the jar and let it sit for about three weeks.¬† When you open the jar you will need to strain it.¬† Purchase some nice glass containers and fill them with your very own bay rum.

This is a Christmas gift that will get a lot of notice and will not be forgotten.  A very unique gift that shows off a talent that others may not know you have.  Give it a try and enjoy the outcome.  Be sure to save a bottle for yourself though.
