Cozy and warm and easy to keep clean
Let’s face it, we live in a crazy, crazy world.¬† We are being bombarded from all sides each and every day with subject matter ranging from global warming to the war, financial collapse, recession/depression, unemployment, underemployment, nuclear threads, infomercials trying to separate us from our money and men of the cloth telling us what and how we need to act to ensure our place in the afterlife.
My question is, does any of this really matter?¬† What are the really important things in your life, your health, the health of your family, making sure you have enough food to eat and a roof over your head, maybe¬†with a touch of decent transportation.¬† You know when you boil it all down, what you have left are really the simple things in life.¬† So many people are still trying to impress everyone else that their lives have become a journey that has no end. You can’t get there from here, I guess would be about right for this journey.
I read Jamie D’s article on camping and I couldn’t help but think of the family who traded in everything for a motor home and an opportunity to just live the simple life and see the country side.¬† How about setting up camp in an RV park or campground and just enjoy good company of other nomads of the highway, share stories and exchange ideas.
I knew a man once who was a retired engineer.¬† He lost his wife to cancer and decided that he needed to do something for himself.¬† He bought a flat bottom Carolina Skiff and built a house on it, a modified house boat.¬† He had all the luxury’s of home, AC, heat, hot and cold running water, kitchen and TV.¬† He and his dog started off on the east coast of Florida and¬†on July 4th,¬†2000 he found himself at anchor in the Hudson river with Lady Liberty looking on and enjoying the fireworks.¬† He then headed to the Florida keys and the last I heard he was planning a trip up the Mississippi River as far as he could go.
Is this a lifestyle for everyone, the answer to that is simple, of course not.  But there are other ways we could each re-evaluate what we are doing; how we are living and things we could do to change.  Remember we live in a global nut house, so anything you come up with will be acceptable to many, nothing is too crazy today.
The days of impressing everyone around you have become irrelevant. It is time that we learn more about the basics of life and what will give us personal pleasure and a less stressful life.¬† I think it may be time to down-shift to a slower pace.¬† There is absolutely nothing you and I can do about what we are being told on the evening news.¬† We don’t have enough money in the market to control or change it.¬† Whatever is going to happen will, and we will still have front row seats, but at least we can decide where we want to be to see it.

If we really look at what truly counts in our lives we would be surprised to find that it really is family and the basics of living. I think the article is correct, we will all be thinking of downsizing, and soon.
