Firetruck ladder class
The Nassau County Fire/ Rescue Division along with Fernandina Beach Fire/ Rescue, is hosting a ladder class for firefighters who are seeking further their education as  firefighters and a position as an Engineer.  This class is a week long and includes both classroom as well as hands on with both the city and county ladder trucks.  The Fernandina Beach ladder is a Pierce engine with a 75’ aerial ladder; the county is an E-1 with a 95’ tower ladder truck that has a bucket at the tip where firefighters fight fire scenes from.
This certified class explains in great detail the full scope of ladder trucks, their abilities and drawbacks, ladder truck placement at a fire scene and safety when using these types of apparatus.  Firefighters from both departments are using this class not only to make them better firefighters, but  to qualify them for the privilege of testing for Engineer positions when they are made available.
The old days of firefighting have changed dramatically over the years.

This is a different world
The equipment and technology used today requires the men and women who serve to have many hours of class room certification.  When you see a fire engine today you can can be assured that the men and women who operate it are highly trained and ready to meet the challenges that may save our lives one day.
