Play, Carouse and Swim with the Manatees
Play with the trichechidae! Carouse with the sea cows! Take your families to the manatees! This Monday, December 21st will be an event you don’t want to miss! You have the opportunity to swim and snorkel with the most magestic, the most magnificent, the most magnanimous monster of the relatively shallow waters of Crystal River. Come play with these very safe, very friendly, and very fun animals! Sponsored by the City of Fernandina Beach, Parks and Recreations Department. For residents of the city the cost is only $50, $60 for non-residents. This is a trip for families, adults, and children 10 and up (under 10 permitted with a parent).
Tentative Schedule: the bus will depart from the Altantic Recreation Center at 5:00am (come dressed with your bathing suit ON!). At 8:30-9:00am you’ll arrive at the American Pro-Dive Center where you check in, have orientation, and gear up (wetsuit, mask, fins, and snorkel provided if you don’t have your own). Now you’re off to swim with the manatees in Crystal River! At 12:30pm you’ll return to the dive shop where you can change your clothes and eat lunch; then arrive back in Fernandina Beach around 5:00pm with an experience that you’ll remember for a lifetime! You’ll need to bring snorkeling gear if you have your own, if not gear is provided (including wetsuits). Bring 2 towels (1 for the boat, 1 to dry off with when changing clothes), warm pull-on clothing for the boat on the way back to the bus (hood/hat/socks recommended), dry clothes for when you get out of the water, plastic bag or dry bag to carry clothes in, and money for lunch and novelty items from the gift shop.
