Sarah's Personnel Teleprompter in her left hand
The guess is that Sarah Palin is now a name we have to retain in our personal databank. What I think could have become John McCain’s worst legacy, is turning into a different light lately. I’m still not a fan and probably will not become one as she differs on some major issues with me, but looking at her Facebook presence she has a lot of fans; some 1,286,112 as I write this. And that is substantial considering that we didn’t know about her before McCain pulled an election stunt in 2008 and called her down from the big vast cold state in the north west that is closer to Siberia than Moscow.
When she arrived on the scene of the Republican National Convention, many of us said WOW?! Some cried unfair practice and some thought that she could be the breath of fresh air needed to counter balance the demagoguery that was enveloping the Nation. Until long after she opened her mouth and started speaking, I have withheld judgment.
Bipartisan Consensus?
Well now 18 months later, we may know better but are still wondering what went wrong with the American voter and the intelligence of political reporting (or is that an oxymoron). Personally I know that the US is doomed if there is not soon some bipartisan consensus reached on where to take this country. And looking at Sarah today (she’ll be 46 coming Thursday) I must say that she may not yet have the political astuteness required to face the current state of the nation, but she has the instincts of a wild cat when it comes to strengthening her position, if she decides to run for the White House in 2012.

Sarah's Teleprompter is less techie than Obama's
At last week’s National Tea Party Convention in Nashville she gave the crowd exactly what they wanted, “America is ready for another revolution”, then collected a $100,000 engagement fee and departed the stage with a stroke of genius by claiming, “This is about the people and it’s bigger than any one king or queen of a tea party, and it’s a lot bigger than any charismatic guy with a teleprompter,” keeping her options firmly in place by not openly taking a distance from either the Republicans or the potential power of a fast rising Tea Party.
Here are some of the facts to remember when it comes to Sarah Palin:
1. The color red is her favorite.
2. When she entered the national political arena she pulled in more controversy in her back pack than all of the Carolina politicians together over the past half a century, including John Edwards, and husband Todd is still racking up the emotions of many.
3. She decided to resign early from her first tenure as Governor of Alaska for obscure reasons, yet everyone still addresses her as governor.
4. She’s seeking the political spotlight like a moth in a light on a hot summer’s eve, yet she has no program, but a lot of enthusiasm.
5. She commands a $100,000 speaker’s fee at the first National Tea Party get together and manages to exclaim that this country is ready for another revolution. (Engagements on the west coast get a $25,000 discount!!!)

Sarah and Scott on the Horizon of American Politics?
Granted, Sarah has her attraction, not only when she smiles and her answers are cryptic. She could be a top model for Lenscrafters and singlehandedly make people abandon contact lenses, yet as a policy maker she is not (yet) Hillary Clinton or even Condi Rice, but as a politician she outclasses both of them. Yet I must admit she’s definitely more astute than 18 months ago. You see I can say this because I’m neither GOP nor Democrat, nor Independent. I do understand tea party sentiments as people in this country have been cheated beyond what is acceptable in any civilized society, yet I can only observe after a lifetime of witnessing political idiocy that long term thinking has gone out of the window and short term extremism and polarization seem to be taking over.
Dialy Kos Republican Poll Results
If you want proof of this trend toward extremism and polarization I may suggest you spend a couple of minutes on dailykos.com ’s latest poll among more than 2000 republicans across the Nation which reads that:
• 53 percent of Republicans said they believe Sarah Palin is more qualified to be president than Obama.
• 39 percent of Republicans believe Obama should be impeached, 29 percent are not sure, 32 percent said he should not be voted out of office.
• 36 percent of Republicans believe Obama was not born in the United States, 22 percent are not sure, 42 percent think he is a natural citizen.
• 31 percent of Republicans believe Obama is a “Racist who hates White people” — the description once adopted by Fox News’ Glenn Beck. 33 percent were not sure, and 36 percent said he was not a racist.
• 63 percent of Republicans think Obama is a socialist, 16 percent are not sure, 21 percent say he is not
• 24 percent of Republicans believe Obama wants “the terrorists to win,” 33 percent aren’t sure, 43 percent said he did not want the terrorist to win.
• 21 percent of Republicans believe ACORN stole the 2008 election, 55 percent are not sure, 24 percent said the community organizing group did not steal the election.
• 23 percent of Republicans believe that their state should secede from the United States, 19 percent aren’t sure, 58 percent said no.
If Obama thinks that his health care bill is his only problem, he has another one coming. These poll numbers (more than 2000 republicans were polled) show that the movement preventing bipartisan consensus on ANYTHING extends well beyond health care. In a nutshell, it is hard to explain to your constituents that you support a racist, socialist president who is illegally holding office only because of the help of ACORN?
Another thing that gravely concerns me is the large percentages that answered with “I’m Not sure”, as it marks a level of confusion that reflects the volatility of acceptance for any policy that is introduced.
And as far as Sarah Palin is concerned, as I said before, she has the instincts of a circus trained mountain lion. She will use all her advantages, hide her disadvantages and keep her options open whether to become a highly paid political commentator with a private life or presidential candidate for the Republican Party or the Tea Party or a Merged new party. It’ll be interesting to see when she makes her move. For now her notoriety allows her to cash in large amounts of political goodwill and enough funds to enter the exclusive group of millionaire politicians. And frankly that is quite remarkable for a woman nobody outside of Alaska had heard about a little over 18 months ago.
