Amelia Island, FL – Thirty member businesses have been nominated for 2011 Amelia Island-Fernandina Beach-Yulee Chamber of Commerce business awards, while 15 members were nominated for 2011 individual awards.
The Chamber will announce the winners during its Annual Awards Dinner at 5:30 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2012, at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation. The event is sponsored by Comcast Business Services and Omni Amelia Island Plantation.
Two new awards have joined the line-up of AIFBY Chamber annual awards saluting achievement by the local business community.
The Green Business of the Year is one of two new categories in 2011. This award will honor a Chamber member that strives to operate in an earth-friendly fashion. Nominations must note policies and practices implemented or products or services provided by a business that produce a positive result for the environment.
The other new award category is the Young Business Leader of the Year. This award will honor a Chamber member under 35 who demonstrates exceptional business leadership.
“The new Green Business Award spotlights the importance our Chamber puts on growing the local business community in a way that sustains Nassau County’s exceptional natural environment,” said 2011 Chamber Board of Directors Chairman Ron Flick of Compass Group. “And we hope the Young Business Leader award will encourage the next generation of business leaders for our community.”
Nominations for the Businesses of the Year, Customer Service Professional and Business Leaders awards were made by Chamber members and staff as well as members of the public. Nominees must be members of the AIFBY Chamber of Commerce.
Winners are selected by vote of the Chamber’s Board of Directors. They are evaluated on how they fulfilled the Chamber’s mission to promote responsible economic growth, employment opportunities, government and excellence in education and quality of life.
Several other awards will be presented during the Annual Awards Dinner. Those awards include the:
* Chairman’s Award, given to a Chamber Board of Directors member for outstanding service on behalf of the Chamber
* Dr. Harry Halley Bowtie Award for Distinguished Service, bestowed annually on a longtime Chamber supporter
* Ambassador of the Year Award, honoring a member of the Chamber’s corps of volunteer Ambassadors.
