Nassau County, FL – The FSCJ Betty P. Cook Nassau Center will host College Goal Sunday on February 23, from 1-4PM. The afternoon event is designed to help high school seniors and families pay for college by providing free expert assistance with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
A completed FAFSA application is required by the U.S. Department of Education and higher education institutions nationwide to determine student eligibility for federal student aid such as the Pell grant, work-study aid, and loans. The FAFSA is also used to determine student eligibility for state, private, and institutional aid. College Goal Sunday Florida is coordinated by the Florida Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators in partnership with the Florida Department of Education, USA Funds, and the Florida College Access Network.
Participants will be able to enter for scholarship drawings totaling $10,500. The scholarships range from $250 to $2000. Scholarships are being offered by the University of North Florida, Edward Waters College and Florida State College at Jacksonville. There are also two $250 College Goal Sunday scholarships that may be used at any Florida college.
High school seniors who have completed the FAFSA for 2014-2015 or complete the FAFSA during this event are eligible to enter the drawings.
Students and parents are encouraged to attend even if they have not completed their 2013 tax return. Parents and students should bring the following documents:
• Your Social Security number
• Your Alien Registration Number (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
• Your most recent federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned. (NOTE: You may be able to transfer your federal tax return information into your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.)
• Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
• Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
• A Federal Student Aid PIN to sign electronically.If you do not already have one, visit www.pin.ed.gov to obtain one.
The event is being held statewide. The local site is a collaboration of Florida State College at Jacksonville, the University of North Florida, Jacksonville University, Edward Waters College, and the Nassau County School District.
Light refreshments will be served. Completing the FAFSA takes approximately one hour. Please arrive by 2:30PM at the latest. The Nassau Center is located at 76346 William Burgess Boulevard in Yulee, Florida.
