2015 Fernandina Beach/Yulee Relay For Life Adds Canned Food Drive

2015 Fernandina Beach/Yulee Relay For Life Adds Canned Food Drive Relay For Life Fernandina Beach/Yulee will be held at Main Beach on March 21, 2015. This 12-hour event, from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, includes a great line-up of entertainment including five bands, over 20 themed laps, a Ms Relay contest, Celebrity Look Alike Contests, themed vendor tents, Team tug-o-war, an Obstacle Course, and more. The day will conclude with an emotional Luminaria Ceremony after dark.

It is often breezy at the beach, and to keep these lighted bags grounded, we are introducing a canned food drive this year. Your donated canned goods will be placed inside of the white, paper bags that are designated to honor the memory, or celebrate the life, of someone who has battled cancer. Prior to the Ceremony, a tea candle will be placed in each bag, and when they are all lit, it sets a dramatic tone for the celebration that follows. Donations from the heart will be collected on site, where you can decorate a bag for someone special in your life.

Please drop off your canned foods at the Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers’ market, located on North Seventh Street on any Saturday until March 21, 2015. The Market Place is open from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. After the Relay For Life event, these canned foods will be donated to Micah’s Place, Nassau County’s certified, domestic violence shelter.

Gather your costumes and join you neighbors and friends at Relay For Life Fernandina Beach/Yulee!

We have wonderful prizes for lap and contest winners, as well as Team Spirit Awards. Teams will each be representing a country, as our “Hope Around the World” theme suggests, so look for fabulous costumes, decorations and perhaps learn how other countries fight cancer, too. Every team offers unique fund raisers. The Fernandina Pirates will have their ship, Amelia’s Revenge, on site; and there will be something for everyone: raffles, jewelry, nail wraps, beads, finger printing, kids activities, face painting, massages, DNA tattoos, green screen photos, food, beverages and so much more.
