Amelia Island Last Leg Rally Receives City Proclamation

Fernandina Beach, FL – Susan Hardee Steger, Mayor of the City of Fernandina Beach has officially honored the Amelia Island Last Leg Rally with a Proclamation. The Rally was founded in 2009 to provide funding for the charity Anchors Aweigh Charters, Inc and to draw visitors and awareness to the charity, Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island. Now, the weekend prior to Daytona Bike Week will be known on Amelia Island as Amelia Island Last Leg Rally Weekend.

Proceeds from the Rally’s events held on February 26 and 27, 2011 will directly benefit Anchors Aweigh Charters, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides no cost fishing charters to those with permanent physical and/or developmental disabilities as well as those diagnosed with a terminal illness. Captains Steve and Wanda Hair have modified their 36 foot charter boat, Ye Ole Pirate, to include wheelchair accessibility and other handicapped devices to provide the highest level of safety and comfort for their passengers and crew.

Over 500,000 motorcycle enthusiasts bypass the coastal community of Fernandina Beach as they travel South during the annual Bike Week migration. The Amelia Island Last Leg Rally provides a plethora of activities to community residents as well as potential visitors, during an otherwise slow economic time of the year.

“It is not the Destination, it is the Ride!”
