The Annual Pre-festival Pirate Parade kicks-off the Isle of Eight Flags festivities on Amelia Island each year.

These contests are hosted by the Fernandina Pirates Club and sponsored by Anne Teague Bonding Agency and Wee Wallaby.

Each year the Fernandina Pirates offer two scholarships. One is for a college bound, Nassau County high school senior and the other is for one who enters the military.
This year the Pirates awarded a $1,500.00 scholarship to Alexandra Mazur who will be attending the University of Florida in the fall. Sadly, no one entering the military submitted an essay to win the $500.00 prize to help with their after boot-camp expenses. For more information, visit www.FernandinaPirates.com.

Atlanta Rhythm Section performs as Saturday’s headliner at the 2011 Isle of Eight flags Shrimp Festival.
Delighted crowds thought ARS Rocked the Festival as attendees danced to the band and enjoyed a fabulous Saturday afternoon! An appreciated crowd let the boys in the band know they wanted more with several minutes of applause and shouts bringing them back to the stage for an encore!

The Blessing of the Fleet is an annual tradition at the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival on Sunday afternoon.
A prayer is said and the ships sail past the Catholic Priest one by one as the holy water is sprinkled on each passing boat.

Boats of all sizes and shapes pull out all of the stops and compete for prizes in the annual Best Decorated Boat Contest.
A highlight of Sunday afternoon, the number of entries is directly related to the condition of the seas!

Three different age groups compete in this Ice Cream Eating Contest sponsored by Cold Stone Creamery of Amelia Island.
Brain freezes and numb fingers are just two side effects when these kids and adults consume pints and quarts of layered ice cream that includes Cotton Candy, Sweet Cream, Chocolate and Shrimp Ice Cream!
