Beware Christmas Shoppers

Christmas shopping always seems hurried and rushed, so beware Christmas shoppers. Watch closely for pricing errors, improper signage and specials that are not really discounted prices at all! I went shopping this past weekend and was amazed at the seemingly innocent errors that are costing Fernandina Beach shoppers on practically every aisle.

First up was signage that displayed one price but rang up a much higher price at the register. Some stores are notorious for this, but this was the first time I had it happen to me at this conveniently located drug store. One item was marked ¬Ω off and rang up at full price and the other item did indeed ring up a sale price, but it was still 10% higher than the sale price displayed on the shelf the signage was offering.

At another store on Amelia Island (K-Mart) there was a sale sign displaying a sale price much higher than the original price… which did not match the original price tag on the woman’s sweater at all! After laughing out loud at the sign, I simply had to take this photo… in this example, the picture says it all!

While there are many good bargains to be had this holiday season on Amelia Island and all around Fernandina Beach, please be careful and watch the prices as they are rang into the register. Catch any errors at the register and stop the cashier before she or he moves on to the next item. Once the sale is totaled, you may find yourself in a long customer service line, or waiting for the manager to be paged, just to get your refund on incorrectly charged items.

We hope these are simply honest mistakes, but let’s do our part to keep these merchants from increasing their profit margins by relying on our own naivety.
