For local motorcycle enthusiasts, Biketoberfest in Daytona, Florida, holds more charm than their larger event held in March.
This is a people watching event! Imaging the sights and sounds of 150,000 amazing motorcycles, but that is not all; beautiful women and fantastic bands await you throughout the entire county. The weather for the fall festival is more predictable than Bike Week, and cooler temperatures means Floridians can wear their leathers that have been locked up in the closet for the past nine months.
Shop for leathers, t-shirts, motorcycle gear and even those hard to find motorcycle parts are easier to find at the large swap meet at the flea market near I-95. Helmet stickers, patches for your jackets, souvenir pins, bandanas, flags and doo rags are abundant.
There are plenty of FREE activities and parties, dinner specials and more. If crowds aren’t your scene, take the scenic route through the park and along the river. This year it is estimated that there will be over 2,000 vendors enticing you at every stop.
Don’t forget the Daytona Speedway, with fast motorcycle excitement including Amelia Island’s own favorite racer, Al Smith, who is heading to Daytona in the top of his division. There will be live music, vendors and motorcycle demos set up at the track. Parking at the Speedway is FREE, and with so much space, your herd of hogs will have no problem staying together.
Main Street is world famous with shops, bars, restaurants, people and bikes. Thousands of motorcycles line the street where parking is free, but if you don’t get there early you’ll have to pay $5.00 to park a two-wheeler in a side lot. Automobiles, or “cages” as they are fondly known, are more expensive and more difficult to maneuver to a parking space. Many people will park on the inland side of the river and walk over the bridge to Main Street.
Destination Daytona remembers Bruce Rossmeyer as his family continues to roll out the red carpet to visitors by adding new activities. This is a must-see! Downtown Daytona’s Harley Shop has put up a new stage, with live entertainment, a muscle car display, giveaways and more. Travel a bit to the south and check out Charlie Daniels in concert at the Edgewater Ranch.
