Calling all Shrimpers and Boaters!

Calling all Shrimpers and Boaters to the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival on Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island, the first weekend in May to participate in the blessing of the fleet.


Fernandina Beach, FL: Calling All Shrimpers and Boaters! The Committee of the 46th Annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival, Presented by Publix, invites you to participate in the Blessing of the Fleet and Best Decorated Boat Contest. Participation is open to all Shrimp Boats, Recreational Motor Boats, Sailboats and Commercial/Charter Boats. To be held on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Fernandina Harbor Marina, prizes will be given for the Best Decorated Shrimp Boat including 2 Round-trip tickets on Southwest Airlines, $750 Cash, a $500 Fuel Allowance from Florida Petroleum Corp. and a Commemorative Plaque for First Place. The first ten registered Shrimp Boats will receive a $100 to $300 Fuel Incentive based on distance traveled for participating. Prizes for the other Best Decorated Boat categories will be based on the amount of entry fees received at $20 per boat (Shrimp Boats are exempt from entry fee). In order to register, download the application from under Contests/Best Decorated Boat and bring it and any fees to the Fernandina Harbor Marina Dock House between 9 and 10 am on Sunday, May 3rd to pick up your number assignments for each boat.     I sure will if I'm in the neighborhood. I love Shrimp. My wife calls them Camarones (She's Spanish). I'll be putting up one of my Caribbean Shrimp Recipes later today so you pirates get a different taste to expand your horizon on what you can do with Shrimp.
