A recent fundraising event, “The 1st Annual Bar-B-Q & Brew” was held on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at the Green Turtle Tavern, by the local barbeque team of “Smoke N Da Cockpit”.

This unique award winning BBQ Team is made up entirely of Air Traffic Controllers who felt the need to give back to the community with a fund raising event. Micah’s Place was the fortunate recipient of their kindness with a check for $821.90.

Tickets were just $10.00 per plate and included a choice of pulled pork, spare ribs, and smoked hot wings. Sides dishes were baked beans, corn or green beans with new potatoes.

The Green Turtle Tavern’s management team also donated a portion of their sales from the day to the cause, as well as The American Legion, who donated a check for $500.00.

A raffle was held at the event with prizes that included a Green Egg Cooker, art work by Lamar Miles, and a gift certificate to The Green Turtle Tavern. Last but not least, the day’s music was generously provided by local musician, Yancy Clegg.
This amazing event yielded an overall donation total of over $1,900.00 to assist victims of domestic violence in Nassau County.
Micah’s Place nonprofit and Certified Domestic Violence Center. It is the only one serving Nassau County, Florida. Its mission is to provide prevention and intervention services to victims of domestic violence and to provide education and awareness within the community to affect change in behavior and attitudes relating to domestic violence.
