Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) is continuing its celebration of half a century of educational excellence and growth with the FSCJ Writers’ Festival, the South Campus signature event. The FSCJ Writers’ Festival is a two-day event on October 15-16, 2015 celebrating the past, present and future of writing.
Join more than 25 published writers in workshops and panel discussions on publishing and various aspects of writing including literary biography, memoir, comedy, poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction and fiction.
On Thursday as FSCJ kicks off the celebratory event, guests are invited to the Lakeside Room from 5-7:30 p.m. for refreshments, live entertainment and a book market. The keynote address will be given by Robert Gentry, the award-winning short story writer who published, “A College Tells Its Story: An Oral History of Florida Community College at Jacksonville” in 1991. The topic for his discussion will be “History at FSCJ: Past Achievement, Present Challenge.”
Jazz singer, Hope Clayton, will perform with John Thomas on keyboard and Fran Coraggio on bass. Also, be sure to stop by the book market to peruse published work or simply chat with the authors.
On Friday, the workshop presentations begin at 9 a.m. and end at 1 p.m., which will be followed by a birthday celebration for the College. The featured speaker on Friday is Laura Lee Smith, author of “Heart of Palm,” which won the Silver Medal in the Florida Book Awards and was selected by O, the Oprah Magazine as one of “Ten Titles to Pick up Now.” Attendees also have another opportunity to meet and greet the authors at the ongoing book market throughout the morning.
