Next Tuesday May 24th, Quality Health of Fernandina Beach, located caddy corner from the Baptist Medical Hospital on Lime Street, is organizing a Health Fair with FREE Health Screens, Food and Fun, Kids Attractions and more from 3-6pm.

Quality Health and Rehab is putting the finishing touches to an upgrade of the entire facilities that can host up to 120 guests for rehabilitation and short term health care.

Pirate Blood Drive

Holiday Home Tour

Friday, December 3 and Saturday, December 4, from 10 AM to 4 PM

Come see four magnificent holiday homes decorated by professional designers/florists for the Christmas season.

A Victorian Tea will be available by separate ticket at the Bailey House, a Queen Anne Style private home, with seatings at 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00 each day of the house tour. Reservations for the tea are $15 and are sold individually through the Museum. Costumed first person interpreters will be present at the Victorian Tea.

Music will be performed and costumed docents will be stationed at several of the houses.

Tickets are $25 per person if purchased before December 3; $30 on the days of the tour. Proceeds from these tours will benefit the Amelia Island Museum of History specifically in its effort to support the archival library which is in dire need of funding.

Ride the Polar Express

The Friends of the Fernandina Branch Library invite you to board the trolley and visit the library, the historic train depot, city hall , the museum and the Amelia Community Theatre.

Saturday Visits with Santa

Bring the kids and their wish lists to give to Santa every Saturday in December before Christmas. Santa will be available from Noon to 3:00 pm in front of the old train depot at the foot of Centre Street in downtown Fernandina Beach.

Luncheon Program on Eudora Welty: Extraordinary People and Places

Don’t miss an exciting Friends of the Library luncheon program on Pulitzer–prize winning author and photographer Eudora Welty, known for her incisive yet compassionate portrayals of characters from the American South. A recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Welty was the first living author to have her works published by the Library of America.

The luncheon speaker will be Dr. Pearl McHaney, associate professor of literature at Georgia State University, who has edited five books about Welty in the last two years: Eudora Welty: Writers’ Reflections upon First Reading Welty, Eudora Welty: The Contemporary Reviews, Eudora Welty As Photographer, Occasions: Selected Writings by Eudora Welty, and The Road to West 43rd Street. McHaney has also written and lectured on William Faulkner, Barry Hannah, David Mamet, Alice Munro, Natasha Trethewey, and Tennessee Williams.

The program will take place at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort, Racquet Park Heron Room, at noon on January 7, 2011. Tickets are $35 for Friends of the Library members and $40 for nonmembers; you can pick up tickets at the Fernandina Beach Library or reserve a space by calling 904-277-7365.

Christmas with O’Henry Holiday Tea
