Chicago comes to Amelia Island in August 2016

Amelia Musical Playhouse is currently in rehearsal for the upcoming August performances of “Chicago The Musical”. The Bob Fosse, Fred Ebb and John Kander collaboration won critical acclaim for the 1996 revival which won six Tony Awards.

The show features favorite songs such as “All That Jazz”, “Cell Block Tango” and “Razzle Dazzle”. The show has a cast of 19 and features a 15 member orchestra. It is being directed by Carey Dresser with Musical Direction by Mary Williams, and five choreographers contributing their talents to the show.

The story takes place in the late 1920’s and is a satire of the corruption of the criminal justice system and the concept of the “celebrity” criminal. Kailin Friedrich will be seen as Velma Kelly, Alexandra Carroll as Roxie Hart, Jill Dillingham as Matron Mama Morton, Bill Mayo as Amos Hart, Jeff Groden-Thomas as Billy Flynn. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. for performances on August 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 24, 25, 26, 27 and a 2:30 p.m. matinee on August 14th.
