Fernandina Little Theatre is presenting Poetry Out Loud on Friday, January 14th at 7:30 PM absolutely FREE.

You are invited to bring a favorite poem to read out-loud to others, either a poem you have written or someone else’s. Come to read or come to listen! All forms of poetry from classic to contemporary are welcome and light refreshments will be available.

To get you in the mood, here is Sarah Kay’s featured performance on the sixth season of the television series Russell Simmons presents HBO Def Poetry Jam, where she performed her poem “Hands.”

“Sarah Kay grew up in New York City and began performing her poetry when she was only fourteen years old. Even though she was often the youngest poet by a decade, Sarah made herself at home at the Bowery Poetry Club, one of New York’s most famous Spoken Word venues.”

In 2004, Sarah founded Project V.O.I.C.E. to encourage teenagers toward creative self-expression through Spoken Word workshops.

What inspiration might you find in poetry?

This FREE event is at the Fernandina Little Theatre, located at 1014 Beech Street, on the corner of 11th and Beech streets, diagonally opposite the city ball fields parking lot.

I love Sarah Kay’s presentation of “Hands” – what a great initiative to get teens involved in Spoken Word! Will FLT be this exciting?
