Located on the St. Johns River right next to the St. Johns River ferry you will find a restaurant with a small marina, great views and wonderful food. The Sand Dollar restaurant has been a local favorite for years and is one of the better places that can be accessed by boat and is often forgotten about by those coming from Amelia Island. The main reason is because the Sand Dollar is located east from the Intra-coastal Waterway, making it more of a destination location. Many Amelia island boaters travel west on the St. Johns to the Jacksonville Landings and the Jacksonville Municipal Stadium.
There are two ways to get to the Sand Dollar. First is to come in from the ocean into the St. Johns River via the Mayport entrance. Once on the St. Johns River, the Sand Dollar will be located on your right and is situated next to the St. Johns River ferry on the north side of the river. For those coming up the Intercoastal Waterway take a left on the St. Johns and proceed east. The Sand Dollar is 8-9 miles from the St. Johns River/ Inter-coastal Waterway junction.
There are no stated rules to tie up at the Sand Dollar, but you should make your arrival known as many of the slips are rented to full time residence that may be out on the water for the day. Remember to take along extra dock lines and plenty of fenders as the St. Johns River can get a little sloppy at times. While you’re in this area check out the naval base just a few minutes east of the Sand Dollar restaurant. Several Aircraft carriers call Jacksonville home and if your lucky, you just might get to see one in port.
