Encaustic is the art of painting with molten beeswax mixed with colored pigments and resin.
Linda Womack is a nationally recognized artist, art instructor and the author of Embracing Encaustic: Learning to Paint with Beeswax. Encaustic is the art of painting with molten beeswax mixed with colored pigments and resin. The results are like no other medium, mysterious, deep, and translucent, with a glow that seems to emanate from within. It is an ancient form of painting used by the Romans on funerary objects and decorative artwork. It is easy and fun and the instructor provides all the materials you need for this class and beyond.
No experience is necessary for this jam packed mixed media class in encaustic. Encaustic can be applied to many surfaces including wood, paper, and ceramics. The molten nature of the medium lends itself to adding collage embellishments and elements of texturing and carving the wax.
These classes are offered by The Amelia Island Artists Workshop and will be scattered in various locations around the Island. For more information contact Mikolean Longacre at 904-415-3900 or Sandra Baker-Hinton at 904-491-8040 or 557-1195.
