Hola Cuban Cafe is hosting the 2nd Annual Downtown Fernandina Egg Hunt on Saturday April 4th starting at noon until all the eggs are found!

We’ve hidden eggs holding prizes from Hola Cuban Cafe and other wonderful downtown shops in several downtown businesses! Where are the eggs? Come by Hola Cuban Cafe on Saturday at noon for a list of clues which will lead you to the participating businesses and search for the eggs hidden, within. While you are there, check out what these fine businesses have to offer! So, put your thinking caps on, SHOP LOCAL and have some fun! Hunt begins at noon till…well, till you find them!

3:30 pm 2nd Annual Nassau County Government Day

The Property Appraiser’s Office, in conjunction with the Sheriff’s Office and other county departments, will host the 2nd Annual Nassau County Government Day on Saturday, April 4th featuring a charity softball game to help raise awareness and money for some great organizations.

Last year’s event drew over 250 people and raised $1,600 for charity. This second annual event will include refreshments sponsored by the Farm Bureau and Coca-Cola, bounce house and activities for kids, an Easter egg hunt for ages 2-8 years old, and many other exciting activities. The event will be free to attend with small donations suggested.

10:00 am Mr. Rick Davis Performance

On Friday, April 10th at 10 a.m. there will be a special live performance of Mr. Rick Davis, singer, entertainer and Master of Ceremonies. Davis will perform from 10-11 a.m. at the Nassau County Council on Aging’s Fernandina Beach Senior Center.

For 25 years he led one of the most successful bands in the Washington D.C. area before moving to Amelia Island three years ago. He will perform an electrifying blend of pop, jazz and light rock as well as songs from the Great American Songbook.

This event is OPEN to the public and free of charge.

The concerts will take place at Amelia Plantation Chapel, 36 Bowman Road, Amelia Island,

7:00 am 2015 Katie Ride for LIfe

The Katie Ride was created in 2005 to raise awareness about organ donation and support the Foundation’s education program. The ride provided an opportunity to create media attention and communicate the impact Katie had as an organ donor. The community embraced the ride and the rest is history.

Katie was driving home on April 18, 1998 from a March of Dimes walk in Jacksonville when she was struck on the driver side of her SUV and killed. She provided the gift of life to five recipients (age 9 to 62) and enhanced the lives of dozens more because of her decision to be an organ donor.

Concert With a Cause benefits P.E.T. Nassau (Personal Energy Transport). The Nassau Community Band provides an annual concert to support Personal Energy Transportation.

The mission of this national organization is to return mobility to children and adults who have lost the use of their legs to polio, accidents or other misfortunes.

5:30 pm Gary Monroe Book Talk at Cafe Karibo

Join Gary Monroe, author of “Mary Ann Carroll: First Lady of the Highwaymen,” for a book talk and signing at Cafe Karibo on Thursday, April 23. There will be a meet & greet with Monroe, followed by a presentation.

Author/photographer, Gary Monroe, discusses Cassadaga, a fascinating 120 year old spiritualist community in central Florida. Monroe is a popular lecturer with the Florida Humanities Council’s Speakers Bureau.

5:00 pm 2015 Taking Strides to End Abuse

Join us for the second annual Taking Strides to End Abuse 5K/Fun Run & Food Truck Rally on Saturday, April 25th at Central Park in Fernandina Beach. This will be an evening run with the Fun Run starting at 5:00 pm and the 5K will follow at 5:30 pm. There will be live music, drinks and a kids fun zone.     Can the events be for a fee.  We have art workshops but they are not free although open to anyone who wished to attend and pay the fee.  These are nationally known instructors and  do not come for free.

    Events that are one day events are perfect for the calendar, and of course multiple day festivals, even if there is a fee or admission price. If the event/class is multiple days a press release is encouraged, and we publish those for free, too. (Sometimes we will put them in the calendar AND publish the press release information.)
