Friends of the Library Presents: The Art of the Japanese Print
Friends of the Fernandina Beach Library (FOL) invites the entire community to a Meet and Greet reception to view the new exquisite art exhibition titled, The Art of the Japanese Print, at the Fernandina Beach Branch of the Nassau County Library. The reception, which offers coffee and refreshments, will be held from 10 am to 12 pm, September 10th in the new Community Room at the Library, located at 25 North 4th Street.

Christine and Paul Meehan are graciously loaning a portion of their collection of contemporary Japanese prints to Friends of the Library for an exhibition from September 1st to December 30th as part of the Library’s new revolving quarterly community art exhibits.

Bijoux Amelia, (a boutique offering fun, funky and affordable ladies accessories), located at 317A Centre Street, will be hosting a “Meet and Greet” with local photographer Ann Kemp. Ms. Kemp is well known locally and regionally and is perhaps most popular for her nature photography – especially images with a coastal connection.

The reception will take place on the second Saturday of September, September 10th, from 5PM – 8PM and refreshments will be served. Admission is free.

Annual Redfish Spot Fishing Tournament on September 17, 2016 to benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation.

Folds of Honor is committed to the families of the armed services who have been wounded or killed while serving our great nation and to ensure no military family is left behind or forgotten.

7:00 pm Mindful Meditation

Friends of the Library is offering a FREE presentation led by Terri Ames, CCH, to help people better understand mindfulness and to help them develop meditation as a daily practice.

Participants will learn how to lower stress levels by maintaining balance and control. This John Kabit Zins-based program will include instruction as well as a guided mindful meditation.

This FREE program will be held in the Fernandina Beach Library’s Community Room at 24 North 4th Street, on Thursday, September 29, at 7:00 p.m. To register, please call the Library at 904-277-7365.

5:30 pm 2016 Storyteller Slam

You’ll giggle, laugh and maybe even cry when six area storytellers compete for the coveted title of Island Tales Story Champion on September 30 at Burns Hall, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in downtown Fernandina Beach.

This year’s theme ‘I Was So Embarrassed!” promises to be a rousing, hilarious storytelling event. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and libations first, with the reception that begins at 5:30 p.m., sponsored by Lulu’s Restaurant, and a cash bar. The storytellers take the stage at 7:00 pm to entertain you and earn your cash votes.

Advance tickets for the reception and storytelling slam are $50 for general admission and $65 for reserved seating. Tickets are available for sale at the Fernandina Beach Library, 25 N 4th Street, or online at www.FernandinaFOL.org.

  6. Can the events be for a fee.  We have art workshops but they are not free although open to anyone who wished to attend and pay the fee.  These are nationally known instructors and  do not come for free.

    Events that are one day events are perfect for the calendar, and of course multiple day festivals, even if there is a fee or admission price. If the event/class is multiple days a press release is encouraged, and we publish those for free, too. (Sometimes we will put them in the calendar AND publish the press release information.)
