Amelia Musical Playhouse is performing the Elvis Presley-themed comedy, All the King’s Women, on November 14th and 15th at 7:30pm. One doesn’t have to be an Elvis fan going in, to walk away with a deep appreciation for The King at the conclusion of this family friendly play.

Directed by Arlene Filkoff, and written by Luigi Jannuzzi, All the King’s Women is a walk down memory lane exploring the cultural impact of “The King of Rock-N-Roll”, Elvis Presley, through the eyes of 17 very different women, who are either enthralled or taken aback by the King’s flamboyant style.

This is a touching comedy with a heart that captures the effects that fame, generosity and just being a nice guy can bring to others.

Tickets are $15.00 for adults, $10.00 for students and are available at the theatre, or on the website www.ameliamusicalplayhouse.com, or call the theatre box office at 277-3455. Amelia Musical Playhouse is located at 1955 Island Walkway right off 8th St in Fernandina Beach.

8:00 pm Collected Stories

Amelia Community Theatre presents Collected Stories at 8 PM on November 14-15, 20-22 and at 2 PM on November 16 on its Studio 209 stage at 209 Cedar Street. This provocative drama is by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Donald Margulies. A portion of each ticket sold will be donated to Friends of the Library.

Collected Stories explores the conflicts between Ruth Steiner, a writer of some acclaim, who now draws satisfaction from teaching graduate level writing courses, and her student, Lisa Morrison, who also becomes her assistant.

As Ruth and Lisa confront generational and ethnic issues, the salient point is that of intellectual property. When does re-telling a story, which was shared in confidence, invade the other’s privacy? The playwright’s moving and pointed words reveal both sides of the argument.

All tickets are $15 and are available through the ACT box office, 261-6749, or at www.ameliacommunitytheatre.org. Doors will open one hour before curtain, with open seating beginning 30 minutes before curtain.

There will be a table in the lobby at each performance to leave donated books for the Friends of the Library book sales.

How could a man, defiantly dressed in a skirt and a string of pearls, possibly survive both the brutal Nazi and Communist reigns of terror in Berlin?

That question is at the heart of the riveting Pulitzer and Tony-awarding winning solo show, “I Am My Own Wife,” which will have its regional premiere starting November 15 at the Fernandina Little Theatre.

“I Am My Own Wife” will run at FLT on Nov. 15, 18, 20, 21 and 22 at 7:30 pm and Nov. 16 at 2:30 p.m.

9:30 am Medicare Enrollment Info Session

Nassau County Council on Aging hosts Medicare Enrollment Info Session. For seniors throughout the country, one of the most important periods of the calendar year is Medicare Open Enrollment period. Nassau County Council on Aging (NCCOA) will help Nassau seniors navigate these waters by hosting a Medicare Enrollment Information Session on Monday, Nov. 24 at 9:30 am.

This hour-long session will be held at the Fernandina Beach NCCOA Senior Center. If you are not familiar with the annual enrollment period, it’s the time period between October 15th and December 7th when you can enroll in Medicare Advantage Plans, as well as Part D Prescription Drug Plans. During this time, you can also review or change your current Medicare plans. This period is the same across the United States, including Florida.

The Open Enrollment period is a time to take a step back, reevaluate your situation, and explore your options. While seniors can do this on their own, NCCOA will have two expert speakers, Janet Pitts and Sandra Taylor on hand to explain Medicare’s finer points in making decisions during this Open Enrollment Period.

Please be aware that NCCOA will only present current information during this event and not offer or give advice regarding which plan someone should choose.

Can the events be for a fee.  We have art workshops but they are not free although open to anyone who wished to attend and pay the fee.  These are nationally known instructors and  do not come for free.

  7. Ameliaprivateeye

    Hi Sandra,
Events that are one day events are perfect for the calendar, and of course multiple day festivals, even if there is a fee or admission price. If the event/class is multiple days a press release is encouraged, and we publish those for free, too. (Sometimes we will put them in the calendar AND publish the press release information.) If you have any other questions about SearchAmelia, you can email me directly at Judie@SearchAmelia.com
