On June 26, the international demonstration against offshore oil drilling, “Hands Across the Sand,” will be sponsored here by the Nassau Sierra Club. Participants will meet at Main Beach (Atlantic and Fletcher) at 11:30 a.m. and at 12 noon join hands in a line across the beach, a metaphorical and actual line in the sand.

For further information about Hands Across the Sand, go to their website. Nassau Sierra will also be holding a small memorial to the 11 people killed on the BP drilling rig. A moment of silence punctuated by the tolling
of a ship’s bell 11 times.
