The City of Fernandina Beach Commissioners voted to cancel some special events, approve others, and continue the mask mandate in a three-to-one vote Tuesday evening, January 5, 2021.

Approved to go on as planned are the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade on January 18th and the Amelia Island Annual Redfish Spot Tournament held in Fernandina January 29th and 30th.

Canceled is the February 20th Chili Cook-off and the Sollecito Mardi Gras, also on the 20th.

After a bit of discussion on the wording of the mandate, require vs recommend, the commissioners did approve “requiring” the use of cloth face masks in the City, indoors, until February 6, 2021. Bradley Bean voted nay on the resolution’s wording, preferring “recommend” because the mandate cannot be enforced.
