Fernandina House Fire on 4th Street

Fernandina Beach, FL – Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 0832 hours, the Fernandina Beach Fire-Rescue Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 222 South 4th Street. The initial report from Nassau County Dispatch was that the caller stated they saw flames coming from inside the residence.

At 0836 hours, Engine-101 arrived on scene and reported that there were smoke and flames visible coming from the front window and sides of the single family residence. The front portion of the house was completely engulfed in flames from the floor to the ceiling. The firefighters pulled hose lines from Engine 101 and knocked down the majority of the fire from the outside of the house. The firefighters then entered the building to conduct a search and finish extinguishing the fire. Fire damage to the residence was heavy, consisting of heat, smoke and water damage. It took 14 (fourteen) Firefighters approximately 15 (fifteen) minutes to bring the fire under control.

Fire Damage to the structure was heavy with a total loss estimate of eighty thousand dollars. There were no injuries reported as a result of this fire. The City’s Fire Marshal was called to the scene to conduct an investigation. Upon determining that the fire had a suspicious origin, the State Fire Marshal’s office was called to assist with the investigation. It has been determined through the collaborative efforts of the City’s Fire Marshal and the State Fire Marshal investigator that the fire was deliberately set.
