Florida Highway Patrol Lieutenant Bill Leeper stopped by the Fernandina Beach Police Department to present Chief Jim Hurley with twenty mobile printers.

The Fernandina Beach Police Department recently received twenty used mobile printers for use in their patrol cars, donated to the agency from their partners at the Florida Highway Patrol. Lieutenant Bill Leeper presented the printers to Chief Jim Hurley at a recent meeting in Fernandina Beach.

The Hewlett Packard DeskJet 450 mobile printers became expendable when FHP upgraded their fleet with the HP 460 & 470 series printers. The addition of mobile printers to the police department will allow officers to print reports and forms directly from their patrol car computer if needed, rather than returning to the police station, which will allow for added efficiency and increase our ability to serve the public. The printers also have long-lasting battery operation for use away from the vehicle in emergency situations.

“The Fernandina Beach Police Department continues to look for ways to provide better services to the community and we sincerely appreciate the Florida Highway Patrol for their valued assistance and support,” said Chief Hurley. “We look forward to getting the printers into the cars.”

According to Chief Hurley the printers will make it easier to provide short form crash reports and driver’s exchange information to motorists at the scene of traffic crashes and should reduce routine errors because of improved legibility. Officers will also be able to print directions and maps while assisting residents and visitors to Amelia Island. Additionally, officers will be able to print booking sheets without having to return to the police station, which can be important when dealing with some incidents, such as DUI enforcement.
