Friday, May 4th, 2012 opens the 49th Annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival. The Riverfront area and the Kids Fun Zone is loaded with activities, but you should know there are no Fine Arts and Crafts or Antiques Displays on Friday.
Kids Fun Zone
The Kids Fun Zone located in the library parking lot between North 3rd Street and North 4th Street will be open from 6:00pm – 10:00pm with entertainment including a special appearance by Rick Hubbard & JuggleSTUFF. Activities include games, face painting, sand art, rock-climbing wall, food court, free Publix Kids Craft Corner, bungee fun, pony rides, caricatures and lots more family fun. The Kids Fun Zone is a designated no-smoking area!
On the Riverfront Stage, the evening kicks off when DRB takes the stage at 5:30pm. The waterfront food court and other riverfront booths are officially open from 6:00 to 10:30.
Activities and entertainment include:
- -5:30pm – Music by DRB
-Live Marine Sea Circus & Shrimp Aquarium Display Sponsored by The University of Georgia Marine Extension Service.
-Official T-Shirt Sales & Sponsor Booths Open at the foot of Centre Street at the Amelia River.
-6:30 pm – Opening Ceremonies
-7:00 pm – Miss Shrimp Festival 2012 Scholarship Pageant (Sponsored by Hampton Inn & Suites, Amelia Island “Historic Harbor Front Hotel”)
-7:45pm – Pirate Parade Awards (Sponsored by Residence Inn Amelia Island)
-8:30pm – Music by DRB
-9:30pm – Invasion of the Pirates at the Amelia River and on the main stage
-9:45pm – Fireworks Display (Foot of Centre Street at the Amelia River)
-10:00 to 10:30pm – Music by DRB
