Discover Amelia Island's Unique Beaches and how to avoid "sand wars" like those in SE Florida.
The South Amelia Island Shore Stabilization Association (SAISSA) is hosting an informative lecture on Regional Sand Management with Jacqueline Keiser of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Keiser, Chief of the Coastal and Navigation Section of the Jacksonville District, will discuss the importance of finding economical sources of sand locally to replenish our beaches.
Keiser is currently involved with the Corps of Engineers waterway dredging projects that provide sand for our local beaches and is leading the Southeast Florida Sediment Assessment and Needs Determination (SAND) Study on regional sand management.
Other local experts on coastal engineering will be present to discuss beach replenishment. This event is open to the public and free of charge. The meeting will be held in the Egret Room at Racquet Park, at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation.
