Take a culinary trip around the world and never leave Fernandina
Take a culinary trip around the world and never leave Fernandina Beach. Located on North Seventh Street, between Alachua and Centre Streets, you will find a friendly open air street market featuring seasonal produce, fresh baked breads and foods from all over the world. Take a stroll through the farmers market and indulge in the smells, and taste the international flavors. Start with Jen and African Love Kitchen. She makes sambusa, a traditional Tanzanian pocket of dough stuffed with vegetables, chicken, beef, and often goat or buffalo. Jen also brings frozen or ready to serve curry dishes filled with cauliflower, and chicken, or beef. Then, step into the booth next door where you will meet Percy, a native of the Caribbean who creates a wide variety of flavored sea salts, spices and rubs. There is Ethiopian berberre, shawarma from the Middle East, Indian tandoori, and Italian Tuscan sea salts.
I Love Pierogi is a traditional Polish vendor and they serve delicious pierogis, which is a pocket of dough stuffed with cabbage and potato, meat, mushrooms, and more. They also serve kielbasa. Bunna Cafe specializes in coffee from the southern region of Yirgacheffo, Ethiopia. Coffee beans grown 1880 – 1919 meters above sea level offer a distinct spicy flavor with a fresh flora aroma. Their coffee is available in mild body, medium roast, or a classic dark.
Are you still trying to get a grasp on the heart healthy Mediterranean diet? Check out Joy of Garlic. This booth offers a huge variety of vegan and Mediterranean specialties such as sun dried tomato garlic spread, spicy marinara sauce, kalamata or Florida fusion salad dressings, spicy mango salsa, and more.
Guacamole is well represented at the farmers market by the King of All Guacamole who drives up from Miami every Saturday and touts, “The best guacamole in the world!” All of the guacamole is made on-site, at the farmers market.
Other international vendors who come to Fernandina’s farmers market include Rose’s authentic Vietnamese egg rolls, and Backyard Buffalo, Indian inspired buffalo milk yogurts and dips.
The Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers market and the Fernandina Beach Arts market will both be open on January 25, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., rain or shine. Music will be provided by Ohio musician, Jeff Tucker, and of course your well-behaved, leashed pets are always welcome.
