Last Weekend in March Events

This last weekend of March brings Amelia Island residents and visitors plenty of activity options starting with the Mobile Millennium Carillon being played during this Bells on the Riverfront event. Historic Fernandina Beach’s waterfront will be the backdrop for this once in a lifetime opportunity to hear these magnificent bells. Don’t miss this event that begins promptly at 6:30 PM Friday evening.

Plan to arrive early and indulge in an ice cream cone from Fernandina’s Fantastic Fudge or do a little shopping at Amelia’s Fine Jewelry or dine at one of downtown’s restaurants.

I was in The Crab Trap yesterday evening and they had some fantastic seafood specials on their chalkboard. Come on out, get some light exercise and make an entire evening out of it by visiting your local merchants and enjoying your own backyard!

There is a Petanque Tournament at Fernandina’s waterfront on Amelia Island that begins at 9:00 AM on Saturday morning. If you still don’t know what Petanque is all about, this is your chance to witness the action live as local teams go head-to-head in this day of boule competition.

With the on-set of spring, you may want to stop by Pipeline Surf Shop and inquire about their surfing lessons or visit one of our newest advertisers, Awakenings Tattoo and Company and see their line of Christian tattoos and t-shirts. Both are located on Sadler Road, across the street from Amelia Hotel at the Beach.

Saturday, from 9:00 to 3:00 PM, is the first Arts Expo put on by the city of Fernandina Beach at the Atlantic Avenue Recreation Center. This is a great opportunity to see the many non-profit art associations available in our community. Painting, quilting and so many more will have tables set up to answer your questions and tell you more about participation in their groups.

Sheffield's at the Palace

Sheffield's at the Palace

The evening brings the Dynamic Les DeMerle Band to Sheffield’s at the Palace for a night of dancing and romance beginning at 7:00 PM and if dancing is not your style, check out an Evening of Story and Song at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. The doors open at 7:15 for the return of Queen of Hearts to Amelia Island with the debut of their brand new CD, “No Preservatives.”

The Adult Choir from the First Baptist Church on 8th Street will be presenting “I will Rise”, an Easter musicale on Sunday, March 28th at 10:15 AM and again at 6:30 PM.

Cold Stone Creamery Cakes

Cold Stone Creamery Cakes

Sunday afternoon you may want to get by Peterbrooke Chocolatier or Cold Stone Creamery to place your orders for Easter basket specialties or that fabulous Easter Sunday ice cream cake. For those of you who hadn’t noticed, Easter Sunday is next weekend!

I’m using Sunday afternoon to prepare my garden with some soil additives from the new Ace Hardware on Amelia Island while my DH (Dear Hubby) spends his day off fixing our SUV. We are hoping to have both projects finished by Sunday evening when the Amelia Arts Academy‘s progressive dinner and fundraiser, Food as an Art, begins. If we miss the fund raiser we will likely order dinner in from either Tony’s Pizza or Philly Boyz Steaks, after all, they both deliver!

One last reminder – with the tax day deadline looming overhead, if you haven’t filed your taxes yet you should make yourself a great big note or tie a string around your finger to call either Courson and Stam or Meeks, Ross and Selander first thing on Monday morning. If you have filed, plan to visit them soon for sound financial advice regarding your money in an uncertain economy!

We hope you have a wonderful, safe and productive weekend and we will likely see you around town!

The Carillion Bells on the Riverfront was a unique and spectacular event. What a great place we live in to have the most beautiful small town and have so much culture also. My 5 year old daughter LOVED it and was really impressed. I love this island!!
