The 50th Anniversary of the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival, held in Fernandina Beach, Florida, has begun. The Pirate Parade, held on Saturday this year, was a huge success with over 95 entries!
Because this parade is so popular, organizers had to make the decision to limit the entries or change the date. While plenty of controversial conversations showed up on a variety of social media sites, the parade went off without a hitch.
Centre, Ash and Front Streets were lined with folks celebrating this wonderful time of the year! Shrimp Festival gives our Nassau County non-profit organizations a chance to raise money to fund their programs for practically the entire year. Many services provided by these wonderful organizations would rely on government funding, and others would not exist at all, if it were not for this celebration of the shrimping industry that brings over 100,000 people to Amelia Island each year.
