Motorcycle Racing at Daytona – Biketoberfest 2009

I began motorcycle racing just two short years ago and who would have thought at the ripe old age of “forty”, I’d come out on top this season.

I completed my Championship Cup Series Southeast Regional schedule September 19th and 20th at the Virginia International Speedway located in Danville, Virginia. In doing so, I managed to wrap up a very successful amateur season of motorcycle racing winning (4) class championships and the title of #1 over-all amateur.

My journey has been truly amazing. Call it a “mid-life crisis” if you will. I began motorcycle racing just two short years ago and who would have thought at the ripe old age of “forty”, I’d come out on top this season. It just goes to show, that when you have a passion, you pursue that passion, and work really, really hard at it, anything is possible. I did not however, do it alone. Without the love and support of my family, absolutely none of what I accomplished would have been possible. Life on the road can be extremely stressful. However my wife Penny and daughter Megan were there with me every step of the way sporting their red #95 shirts and always ready to lend a hand in the pits. My mom and dad often made the trips and were also a big help. My friends and teammates, Scott Anderson, owner of Aztec8.com, Travis Richards, Darrell Ryals, and Bruce Comiskey all played a huge role in my success. Scott and Travis, fellow racers, always challenged and pushed me to my limits. God only knows how many practice laps we put in at Jennings GP. Finally, my contingency sponsors, Michelin Tires, EBC Brakes, Silkolene Lubricants, Power Stands, all contributed financially which in turn allowed me to enter and participate in every southeast event this year. And let’s not forget my only local financial sponsor, Mason’s Refrigeration. Thanks for keeping me cool Mason’s.

Biketoberfest 2009 once again brings motorcycle racing to the high banks of Daytona International Speedway October 16 – 18. A complete schedule of racing action can been found here. Some highlight events include Professional AMA riders competing in the Supersport East Finals and the MotoST 8 hours at Daytona on Saturday October 17th. On Sunday, October 18th, Championship Cup Series riders, including myself, will be racing for National Titles in a number of different classes. Entry into the infield, if riding a motorcycle, is free. Let’s not forget, the true reason for both bike week and Biketoberfest is motorcycle road racing. So if you will be in Daytona for Biketoberfest, make it a point to come by the stadium and ride your bike into the infield via the front straight-a-way tunnel, located right next to Daytona USA.
