I remember moving here 22 years ago when my husband and I were first married and we had a yard sale. This was no ordinary yard sale. We were combining his home furnishings, with my home furnishings, to create a home with “our” home furnishings. Coming from Atlanta, it was quickly decided we would move all of our furnishings to Amelia Island and hold the yard sale in Fernandina Beach.
That yard sale, so many years ago, had the title, “Mother-in-law coming to visit!” This is a sobering yard sale for us because, this time, my mother-in-law is moving to Arizona.
My in-laws decided to make Amelia Island their home shortly after we moved here. We’ve shared the important holidays and family moments, but we’ve also shared life’s heart aches through the long illness and passing of my father-in-law.
Now she is moving to Arizona and will be closer to my husband’s two brothers and their families. Our blessing of having her be so close to our family all of these years will now be a blessing appreciated by them.
Back to the yard sale: Decades of accumulation in three bedroom homes is now being downsized to small Arizona condominium! Other family and friends are also putting stuff in the sale, so I don’t even know what all will be for sale!
If you have been to one of our previous yard sales, then you know: Early birds will be shot!
Friday and Saturday, August 3rd and 4th, from 8:00 to 2:00 PM, you are invited to Jekyll Court (across from the YMCA’s pool) to find treasures and memorabilia being disgarded for a new beginning.
(Rain date is August 10th and 11th, from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM.)
Clothes, knick-knacks, a matched pair of twin beds, other furniture pieces, toys, books, washer & dryer, stationary bike, home decor, some tools… all kinds of stuff!
