The Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers’ market will be open on April 2, 2016, on North Seventh Street, in historic Fernandina Beach, Florida. With three varieties of olive vendors at the market this Saturday, this week the market is all about the “olive”. Whole olives, pitted olives, olive juice, olive salad, and olive oils are all specialties of some of our most popular booths.
The Golden Olive Press is back with gift sets and baskets just in time for Mother’s Day ideas. Founded by brothers Omar and Paul with the purpose of introducing premium Spanish olive oils to American households, it was through their passion for food and wine that they came to realize many authentic Spanish products were either not available, or of inferior quality. They select their oils on the basis of quality, regulatory accreditation, and taste. They guarantee their oils will be of the highest possible quality. Stop by and meet Paul, and his lovely wife Melanie, and taste a sample – you won’t be disappointed.
Returning again this week is our biweekly vendor, Jay’s Marketplace. Denise brings Jay’s Italian Olive Salad and Olive Juice all the way from St. Petersburg, Florida. Basically, it is an olive salad made with green Italian olives and an assortment of chopped vegetables blended with olive oil. The salad mix can be used in a variety of recipes including a tasty Muffuletta sandwich. Other great ways to dish up the salad mix is in antipasto salad, served in omelets and pizzas, a topping for your favorite baguette, or spoon it on a hearty hot dog or polish sausage.
Recently honored as Small Business Leader of the Year by the jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, Owner Shai Tzabari creates and sells cucumber pickles ranging from sweet and sour to a spicy-sour. He offers kimchi, sauerkraut, jardiniere, olives, hummus and other tasty goodies. Olive My Pickle, now a weekly vendor at the farmers market, specializes in barrels and barrels of pickles and olives. They take great pride in the Kosher Certification they received by our area’s local certifying Rabbi, Yaccov Fisch, Senior Rabbi at Etz Chaim Synogogue in Jacksonville. Kosher Certification is a third party verification of the company’s integrity, cleanliness, and wholesomeness of the foods they make. Their fermented pickle recipes are rooted in Eastern European, Jewish food traditions so they can share this heritage, and those who keep Kosher, their delicious pickles and olives.
