A Novel idea from some Travel providers in Queensland Australia, invites you to donate disaster relief in return for a chance to win a trip.
Tropical weather conditions to the east of Australia have been pushing large amounts of water towards the Australian coast, especially the Queensland coastal areas, which led to an abundance of rainfall on cities like Brisbane and Toowoomba. Especially the latter city, which is located some 2,000 feet up in the crater of a volcano, was battered by violent tidal waves in recent days, causing substantial loss of life and enormous destruction, projected to cost billions of dollars in damages.
Authorities and citizens there fear that the situation may become untenable as the flood season continues. People are talking about “inland tsunamis” and looking at this video from the BBC, we can verify the seriousness of that claim.
Normally this would not cover our news approach here at SearchAmelia, but considering the many reactions I received in our community, I would like to share the following financial AID request from Down Under Answers in collaboration with Vaustralia, two travel organizations that operate in the area:
You are obviously well aware of the devastation caused by the floods in Queensland, Australia. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Queensland. All clients that we have traveling in the areas, or scheduled to travel there, have been re-accommodated, and we’ll continue to monitor the process in the weeks ahead. For up to date information on areas affected, please click on the following link: http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/
We would like to help, and would ask for your assistance in working with the relief work ahead. We have partnered with our friends at V Australia, and will be donating a trip for two to Australia in an effort to raise money for the Red Cross Relief Fund. Here is the trip we are providing:
• Tickets for two from Los Angeles to Australia, on V Australia. Domestic Australia sectors on Virgin Blue.
• Three nights in Melbourne at the Crown Metropol, with access to the “Club 28” including breakfast and drinks/canapes daily.
• Three nights in Sydney at the Sebel Pier One.
• Three nights in Cairns at the Shangri-La Cairns.
• Colonial Tramcar Dinner for two in Melbourne.
• Yarra Valley Wine Tour for two from The Australian Wine Tour Co.
• Essential Sydney Tour from Australian Wild Escapes for two.
• Coffee Cruise on Sydney Harbour for two from Captain Cook.
• Outer Barrier Reef tour in Cairns for two from Quicksilver Cruises.
• Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation in Cairns from Downunder Tours for two.
• All airport transfers throughout.
• Plus, there will be additional activities added, and VIP status throughout.
(Taxes of approximately $250 per person the responsibility of the winner. Certain black-outs apply. Travel must commence by October 31, 2011 and conclude by November 30, 2011.)
For every donation in increments of $10, you will have one entry into the drawing. So, if you donate $50, you receive five entries. $100 will get you 10 entries. The more donated, the better the chance to win. Trip may be transferred (so if you win, you can provide the trip to someone else if you choose). Please help us in raising money for such a worthy cause – please tell your clients, your family, your friends and neighbors.
The process is simple. Go to our secure website payment portal: Select “Red Cross” as the Type of payment, and the Reservation ID is “Flood Appeal.” You will receive an email acknowledgement of the transaction. All monies received, and the drawing itself, will be reviewed and verified by Cottle & Swanson, CPA’s of Bellevue, WA. Donations accepted until February 8, 2011 and drawing will be held on February 10, 2011.
Thank you so much for your consideration. We appreciate greatly the assistance of V Australia and the other terrific partners in Australia for making this possible, and we hope to make a strong impact on relief efforts. Down Under Answers and each team member will be making donations to this cause separately (obviously exempt from the prize drawing).
For questions, please contact Margot Nahay at email@example.com or 1-800-788-6685 ext. 225.
My very best regards,
Down Under Answers
The information came to me via Angela Pierson Wallace, Australia Export at Amelia Island’s own The Travel Agency and when I looked at the initiative I saw a new and very creative way to entice donations in dire need situations. I think I like to take the chance. Here is the information once again: Go to their secure website payment portal: Select “Red Cross” as the Type of payment, and the Reservation ID is “Flood Appeal.” You will receive an email acknowledgement of the transaction.
