Results from the Rollin for Joplin Poker Run

Participants who won cash awards, generously gave their winnings back to the Rotary Club to use for the Joplin Tornado Victims.

Amelia Island, FL – The Rotary Club of Amelia Island Sunrise and its Disaster Relief Committee, headed by Rotarian Lila Keim, coordinated a motorcycle poker run event to benefit the Joplin Tornado Victims. The Poker Run Motorcycle Event was held on Saturday, September 10th, 2011. Participants started at Murray’s Grille, in Yulee, Florida.

Sunrise Rotary President, Katey Breen, kicked off the event with a welcome message to the riders followed by the Blessing of the Bikes by Pastor Norm Dalton.

From Murray’s Grille, riders headed to Conner’s A-Maize-Ing Acres in Callahan. The ride continued into Folkston, Georgia at Whistlin’ Dixie, then to Captain Stan’s in Woodbine, Georgia. Riders dropped back into Florida for a stop at the Red Neck Yacht Club on Hwy 17 South in Yulee, Florida with the ride ending at 3:00PM at the Sonny’s Real Pit Bar-B-Q in Fernandina Beach, Florida. The awards ceremony, including awarding several CASH prizes, was held at 3:30 PM.

The participants who won cash awards, generously gave their winnings back to the Rotary Club of Amelia Island Sunrise club to use towards disaster relief for the Joplin Tornado Victims. Winners included: Best Hand – Dr. Bruce Glickmon, 2nd place – Jim Horn, 3rd place – Mike Miller, 4th place – Don Clark, 50/50 – Mike Miller.

“Best organized ride I’ve been on in a long time”, “Great route”, “Loved the stops” and “Great time” were comments expressed by the enthusiastic participants.

The Poker Run was sponsored by Harris Teeter, CB Advertising, Murray’s Grill, Fast Signs, and Sonny’s BBQ.
