A gift to the community honoring Rotary’s 100 years of service in Florida is an integral part of District 6970 and the Rotary Club of Jacksonville’s centennial observance. Chartered in 1912, the Rotary Club of Jacksonville was the first Rotary Club in the state. The Centennial Project Mobile Medical Clinic will be dedicated at a District wide luncheon on February 13, 2012.
According to Club President Howard Dale “The Centennial Project has 29 Rotary Clubs participating. This is the first time in 100 years that this many clubs of Duval, St Johns, Putnam, Clay and Nassau counties have supported such a community effort.”
The Centennial Gift is a state of-the-art mobile health unit for bringing care to those in need of affordable and accessible health services especially low income families, children, and individuals. Services include screening, inoculations and basic health care. The services are offered without regard to gender, age, race, religion and national origin. The service area includes Duval, Clay, St. Johns, Nassau, Putnam and Baker counties.
The mobile health unit will be operated and staffed by the St. Vincent’s Medical Foundation through its outreach ministry under a 15-year agreement.
The mobile unit will be dispatched to public and private schools, churches, community centers, health fairs, shopping centers, and other locations to conveniently serve children and families who need medical assistance. From time to time Rotarians will assist in public events associated with the mobile unit.
