Fernandina Beach, FL – The Rotary Club of Amelia Island Sunrise presented a check for five thousand dollars to the Executive Director of the Council on Aging of Nassau (COA), Tom Moss in a short ceremony last Friday. The check represented the proceeds from the first annual COA Walk-a-Thon to honor grandparents, held on September 8, 2012. The event was a fundraiser for services the Council on Aging offers to seniors and caregivers in our Adult Day Healthcare Center.

“The Walk-A-Thon to raise money for the Council on Aging’s Adult Day Healthcare Center was a tremendous collaborative effort that yielded exactly the results we were looking for. By pooling our resources with Sunrise Rotary, we were able to accomplish much more than either organization could have by itself. We are deeply indebted to the Rotary for all its help and hope to make this an annual event.”

Nearly 65 participants walked in the event which began and ended at the COA’s Transportation Center located on N. 13th Street.

“The COA is grateful to Sunrise Rotary for their efforts in producing this Walk-A-Thon”, said COA Executive Director Tom Moss. “We will continue to reach out to the local community seeking willing individuals and businesses that are able to offer their support, while also actively seeking grants from government organizations and foundations that support senior projects.”

The Council on Aging is a 501-c-3 non-profit agency. We cheerfully deliver critical services to Nassau County seniors in five categories including Meals on Wheels, COA Transportation, In-Home Care, and Adult Day Health Care, while operating two senior recreation centers. We are partially funded by government grants and donations from private individuals.
