Fernandina Beach and the annual Shrimp Festival was the only place in the world you could view shrimp boat races. These large boats with massive diesel engines would line up in the Amelia River and race. It was indeed a sight that you would not forget. The owners no longer race the boats today but we still have the memories of the years that they did. One of the boats that seemed to win every year was owned by Captain Joe Tringale, the “Dixie Queen”, sleek in every sense of the word and had the speed others could not match.
