Held the 1st weekend in May, The Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival's musical headliner is...
I thought it was a rumor and shrimpfestival.com has no information on their website regarding this year’s entertainment, but after verifying the appearances of both bands on their own website tour calendars – Poco and Firefall will be performing at this year’s Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival.
Poco, hitting the stage for more than 50 years, claim to put performers half their age to shame. Don’t recognize the name? Well, neither did my kids – who are in their 20’s and 30’s. Songs you might remember from this country rock band include, “We don’t Talk Anymore,” and “Crazy Love.” This band of four has been through nearly 20 members, but one of their original founders, Rusty Young, is still with the band.
Firefall has been around for over 40 years, and three of the five original members are currently touring with the band. With iconic, soft rock pop songs from the 1970s (my childhood), I can already hear the sweating crowd of beer and wine drinking Baby Boomers singing along to “You are the Woman” and “Just Remember I Love You.”
Mark Deaton, founder of Resort Talent on Amelia Island, is still volunteering to hold the reins of the entertainment committee for the Shrimp Festival and you can bet some of the bands his company represents will be returning to the festival this year including the crowd pleasing, Swingin’ Medallions, who have played Sunday afternoon of the Shrimp Festival for as long as I can remember.
