Sounds on Centre on Amelia Island has become a major event drawing a crowd includes families, young adults, seniors and business professionals.
Sounds On Centre, presented by the Historic Fernandina Business Association, will begin the 2010 season with its first concert on Friday, March 5th. The free community concerts take place in downtown Fernandina Beach and will be held the first Friday of each month from March through October, except for May.
This year an additional eighth event was added to the schedule. As a kickoff to the Memorial Day weekend a special Fifties and Sixties Sock Hop theme is scheduled on Friday May 28th, featuring Big Vic & the Screaming Deacons. There will be a display of classic 50-60’s muscle cars and a “twist” contest as well as a best costume contest.
Concerts will be held on Centre Street between Front and 2nd. Street. Downtown Fernandina will come alive with music and dancing feet from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the music of the 60’s 70’s and 80’s. Whether you have a partner or not, join the Fernandina Beach Pirates as they form an impromptu conga line that snakes through the crowd.
The Historic Fernandina Business Association is a not-for-profit organization with over 50 business members in historic downtown Fernandina Beach. As an organization, our mission is to promote the downtown business district of Fernandina Beach while giving back to the community. In the 2009 program, we successfully promoted 6 events of SOUNDS ON CENTRE and had over 1,200 people attending each night including a record crowd of 2400 in attendance for the Oct. finale that featured a combined event with the Amelia Island Jazz Festival. Although there were predominantly local
community residents in attendance, there were many Island visitors as well.
Sounds on Centre has become a major event in the city. Drawing people of diverse backgrounds, the crowd includes families, young adults, seniors and business professionals. Sounds on Centre has come to play a vital role in enriching our community spirit through music and song while also promoting our city and local businesses.
