An "out of the box" Christmas gift idea
The swimming pool at the Atlantic Avenue Recreation Center is heated! Water surrounds our island and if you prefer warm water, you can swim year ’round. This is truly an “out of the box” Christmas gift idea and there are several aquatic programs offered for both city and non-city residents. Drop in for the day, or purchase a monthly or yearly pass; either way you can have everyone on your list enjoying our moderate weather and benefitting their health at the same time.
Just to give you a few ideas, here is some of their scheduled activities. Morning lap swim is offered Monday thru Fridays form 6:00 to 8:50 a.m., and Laps for Lunch are from noon – 3:00 p.m., this gives an entirely new meaning to, “I’m having a Power Lunch”. The pool is open for public swimming on weekdays from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Water Aerobics is very popular in Fernandina Beach with classes offered in three different levels. Try a basic water aerobics class which is a shallow water class, a deep water fitness class, or a combination class.
Other aquatic activities that would make amazing Christmas gifts include swimming with the manatees in Crystal River, a trip that includes transportation, gear and a boat trip, or take a scuba program and earn your PADI Water Certification, or take a “Try It” class.
