2015 Valentine's Day Artrageous Art WalkSaturday, February 14, 2015 is the date of the 2015 Valentine’s Day Artrageous Art Walk and all of the galleries in Fernandina Beach will be open for your pleasure.

Island Art Association

The Island Art Association will be open from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in downtown Fernandina and will be presenting Susan Henderson as the February Artist of the Month.

Susan is a Florida painter and Fernandina Beach resident whose work is regularly shown in the Jacksonville Watercolor Society and the Women Painters of the Southeast exhibitions. The IAA show focuses on recent work from Florida in large format using images familiar to many locals with a different spin. Working in oils Susan captures the unique light and color found in local waterways and plant material.

Susan holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Ohio State University and has lived and painted in Fernandina since 2006.

The exhibition of Susan Henderson’s recent painting is on display at the Island Art Association at 18 N. 2nd St in Fernandina Beach through February 28. The opening reception is on Saturday February 14 from 5 – 7.

Also on exhibit through February at the Island Art Association is the annual juried Nassau County high school art show. At The Island Art Association, for the month of February, is the Annual Nassau County High School Student Art Show. Four High Schools in Nassau County are represented.

This is a juried show; the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners receive gift certificates, paid by the Art Association, for art supplies from Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff in Boone NC.

All winners receive “art goodies” from Joe Miller, owner of Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff. The judge for this show was Avery DeLuca, a history of art student at the University of Florida.

Come see the many talented students in this show!

    Seventh Street Gallery
    Eileen’s Art and Antiques Centre

The following are specials events we heard about from the Mouth of Amelia:

ISLAND ART ASSOCIATION
18 N. Second Street, Fernandina Beach, Florida.
The August Featured Artist is Sharon Haffey. Meet the artist of her themed show, Road Trip, an appropriate title for someone who has lived in 13 states and traveled extensively. Haffey has been painting in oils and acrylics for more than 30 years and finds inspiration in the awesome and the ordinary. Her paintings are colorful, bold and playful and designed not to depict a realistic image but a sense of place.

BLUE DOOR ARTISTS
205 1/2 Centre Street
The Blue Door Artists will feature the paintings of Theresa Daily for the month of August. Theresa will be introducing new work in acrylics inspired by the natural beauty of Amelia Island. In her signature watercolor style, these will include new expressionistic and stylized pieces, as well as additions to her ongoing “Horizons” series. Enjoy an open studio tour and visit the creative spaces of all nine artists that represent the Blue Door Artists Studio/Gallery.

SANJON GALLERY
Third and Ash, Fernandina Beach
The Turtle Trot Painting is ready. This year Sandra chose to do a juvenile Green Sea Turtle which in her way of thinking is one of the most beautiful of the Sea Turtles. She had photographed them a couple of months ago down at Cape Canaveral where they hang out around the jetty there looking for seaweed and algae to eat. Their heads pop up out of the water, which is clear enough to see them coming your way, to grab a breath of air before making another dive downward. When they hit the surface they usually will blow bubbles as they exhale that big breath of air. She had the idea last year and had been thinking about it for a while. Also Sandra is preparing for delivery in a few weeks a lot of new work for a 2 person show at the Art League of Daytona Beach she is having with fellow artist, Sue Reynolds. All her new paintings will be on view during the Art Walk evening. Also her newest baby, Peanut the 4 week old squirrel will be attending.

SEVENTH STREET GALLERY
The Premier Showing on Amelia Island for Kenneth Cain Photography.

Seventh Street Gallery invites you to an extraordinary summer show on August 11. Island resident and well-known photographer Kenneth Cain will be displaying his personal photographic work for the first time on Amelia Island. Cain will also be introducing and signing a handsome, limited edition volume of his photographs.

Join them at 14 South 7th Street (across from Lulu’s). For questions, directions, or to set up an alternate viewing time, call 432-8330.

Artrageous Art Walk is Saturday Night

"Joy" By: Casey Matthews

The Artrageous Art Walk is Saturday night, November 14. This is a walking tour of several art galleries located in downtown Fernandina Beach, Florida. As we approach the holidays it is time to start shopping for gifts and this is a great way to support our local artists and purchase some exquisite and unique gifts for those on your list.

The weather this weekend promises a beautiful fall evening to stroll around town, get a bit of exercise and make new friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.

There is a Paper Painting exhibit at Amelia SanJon Gallery at 3rd and Ash Streets. They also feature cooper jewelry, pottery, woodwork, ceramics and glass.

Gallery C is also at 3rd and Ash Streets. Make your way upstairs to see the whimsical paintings, jewelry and handbags of Carol Winner.

While you are there check out Trish’s Slightly Off Centre. This gallery has a little bit of everything including lamps, jewelry, prints and hand crafted rolling pins, but Trish Tipton’s pottery is the main attraction.

The Island Art Association’s Nouveau Art Show runs from 5:30 to 8:30. This is a combined effort of many of our local artists who display their talents at 18 N. 2nd Street. Some of the artists will be present to show off their textiles, paintings, pottery and paintings.

The Blue Door Art Studios, located at 205 ½ Centre Street, is always a favorite stop during the Artrageous Artwalk. You’ll find treasures such as this articles image, Joy, by Casey Matthews. This is also your opportunity to take a peek at the offerings for this year’s Small Works Show. These one- of-a-kind gifts fall into anyone’s budget. The show traditionally opens during the Downtown Pajama Party held the Friday after Thanksgiving in historic Fernandina Beach. This is when the merchants open up at 8:00 AM and to make this shopping frenzy convenient for you, you are invited to come in your pajamas. As a matter of fact, those wearing their PJ’s get special discounts and the opportunity to win prizes in the costume contest!

So, come on out this Saturday night and get your holiday shopping started early!

Second Saturday Art Walk

Colored Pencils

Colored Pencils

On the second Saturday of every month, Amelia Island offers a fun art crawl called the Artrageous Artwalk. These are free to the public and include 12 of Amelia Island’s incredible art galleries that showcase local artists and their wide array of fine art, including photography, pottery, copper, metal, stained glass, watercolors, oils, acrylics and mixed media. Visitors have the opportunity to meet and mingle with the artists behind the work.

This month, Artrageous Artwalk is held on September 12th, from 5:00 to 8:00PM. I would recommend starting at Amelia SanJon Gallery at 218 Ash St. The gallery is devoted to displaying a wide range of regional and local original fine art and artisan-made gifts, and the gallery is also the working studio of artist Sandra Baker-Hinton, who is available to share her world of art and her work with Sea Turtles.

Trolley transportation is available at no charge, courtesy of the Amelia Island Plantation. The trolley will pick up at 3rd and Centre Streets downtown and the Amelia Island Plantation Guild and Galleries from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Art walk brochures with maps are available along the walk.
