The first half of the production is the scene Last Rights from the 5-act play Hitchhike by Joanna Pucci. It features two characters, the passenger, an 80-year-old man and the driver, of indeterminate age. As the scene progresses it becomes clear that this is more than a normal taxi ride since the driver speaks to the man about events in his life.
The second half is the play We Interrupt, written by local playwright Jane McAdams. About a widow, Lily, who is coping with the recent death of her husband, Joe, the play’s supporting characters include Katie, her teenage granddaughter; her handyman Douglas and his teen nephew; and her friend, Cynthia.
Transitions has number of songs and poems, which have to do with senior issues. Besides a thoughtful evening of drama, half of the ticket proceeds will help Nassau County Council on Aging’s various programs to continue to serve seniors in our community.
In its 41st year of service to senior citizens, Nassau County Council on Aging’s mission is to improve the lives of older adults with a special focus on those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged. We accomplish this through our Senior Life Centers, providing vital programs, services and compassionate care designed to improve the health, independence and economic security of Nassau County seniors and their families. Partially funded by government grants, the foundation funding and donations come from private individuals.
